What you need
- An iPhone XS or later, on the latest version of iOS.
- A NASQ account. NASQ is invite-only: owners are invited by NASQ, and staff are invited by their owner or manager.
- Card payments set up for your restaurant. An owner or admin completes Stripe verification once, in the NASQ app or the owner portal.
Turn it on (owners and admins)
- In the NASQ app, go to More › Tap to Pay on iPhone and tap Enable Tap to Pay on iPhone.
- Sign in with your Apple Account and accept the Tap to Pay on iPhone terms. Only an owner or admin can do this, once for the whole restaurant.
- Wait while your iPhone prepares. This can take a minute the first time. Keep the NASQ app open.
- Staff who see "Ask your admin to enable it" need an owner or admin to complete these steps.
Take a payment
- Open the bill, tap Payment, then tap Tap to Pay on iPhone.
- Present your iPhone to the guest. They hold their card horizontally, or their device, at the top of your iPhone over the Contactless Symbol for a few seconds, until the Done tick appears.
- If the card asks for a PIN, hand your iPhone to the guest and look away. For guests needing visual or other assistance, accessibility options are built into Tap to Pay on iPhone to help them securely enter their PIN.
- Offer a digital receipt by QR code, email or text.
If a payment does not go through
- Ask the guest to try again, holding the card still near the top of the iPhone.
- Try another card or a digital wallet.
- Use another payment method: pay by link, cash, or your card machine.
- A receipt is still available for a declined or cancelled payment.
Troubleshooting
- “Preparing” for a long time: check your internet connection and keep NASQ open in the foreground.
- “Not supported on this iPhone”: Tap to Pay on iPhone needs an iPhone XS or later. Use pay by link or cash instead.
- Update iOS from Settings › General › Software Update if NASQ asks you to.
- Make sure location access is on for NASQ. Card payments need it.
Refunds and disputes
- Refunds and disputes are handled by your restaurant from the NASQ owner portal or your Stripe dashboard.
- Guests should contact the restaurant about a payment.
